14901 is still on holiday in Old Oak. It was supposed to be collected on Wednesday, but early on in the week it was apparent that Reids would have to reschedule so what was the last exhibit to arrive at the Open Day looks like being the last to depart.
If you thought last week's blog was a little 'flat' then maybe this week's will make up for it. Like I said before, you never know what's going to happen around here.
Seems like there's a lot to say this week. I sometimes ask myself have I gone into things in too much detail to the point of inducing boredom, or is it too brief for those who don't indulge in this locomotive lunacy to understand what is going on.
OK, fanfare,roll of drums. Seven years ago this evening I plucked up courage to write my first blog entry under the umbrella of Pete Waterman's Railnuts site.
Nearly half-way through 2017 and where has it all gone? I've started getting letters telling me that I need to make a decision about when and how I take my state pension, a point in life - retirement - that I have long concluded could never happen since Barclays Bank made 'an unfortunate mistake' in 2001 and forced Yorkshire Engine Co into Liquidation. But oh dear, some of their senior executives may be in legal trouble, it was announced this week. I must have a whip-round for them. Anyone got a whip?
As usual I like to start this blog with a thought-provoking commentary on an aspect of railways or our daily lives. But it's too hot.
So here we go with another mix of progress and folly.
Here we are again. A recent update in the template for this website system seems to have made the 'Latest Post' function disappear. Nothing to do with me, honest, but with hackers in the news of late, these updates are essential to staying one step ahead. Even if, on occasion, we don't know what step it is we are taking.
As you know, we are apt to acquire things from auctions. Not just e-bay, but “traditional” auctions where the bidding may be on-line but more often in person. But years of watching BBC's Bargain Hunt has taught us to know what it is you are bidding for, what it is worth and not get carried away with the moment.
A visitor asked on Saturday 'How many of these locos actually work?' and for once I could say, that one, that one, that one, that one, and that , that and that could be made to go with batteries and an hour or two's work... It is not that we have made any dramatic moves forward on the collection, but suddenly you realise just how much we have achieved - so far.
