Of writes and throngs

26th February 2017

You were lucky to see last week's edition anywhere near to time. I set off south having (I thought) set it to publish at nine p.m. but in my haste had not got it right. Fortunately my hoster - Bill Hyde at Priday Design -  not only provides a first-class service but is also a reader and a friend. He popped in to the administration section, realised I'd got it wrong and set it right!

Of horizon and background

4th December 2016

It has, as usual, been a busy week at the Briddon Country Pile and whilst I managed to take a few hours “off” on Friday afternoon I still felt guilty doing so: which is one of the penalties of being self-employed – no paid holidays, no sick pay and that self-reproach that not 'getting on with business' is letting down one's spouse and family.

Of  accidents and Air Ambulance

30th October 2016

Traditionally we have convinced ourselves that the last weekend of the month is the one where everything goes wrong and the first weekend of the month is where it all goes right.  But this is one month where things have not gone wrong – well not for us anyway, but with two road traffic accidents nearby may it have rubbed off on somebody else?

Of track, lights and livestock

16th October 2016

Will you still need me?
Will you still feed me?
Oh, hullo again. Spreading the birthday over two days may have had a beneficial effect, or maybe the presence of grandson, smiling innocently and enthusiastically blowing the candles out on my birthday cake was the solution to the usual annual blues. Either way, here we go again for a weekly roundup.

Of Autumn in the air

2nd October 2016

The mornings have taken on a definite Autumnal feel, with a subtle chill in the air, although it is noticeably warmer inside the shed. The days though continue to be bright and encourage us to get out on our little piece of track extension.

Of Pimms or Champagne

18th September 2016

You may be aware that I get a number of comments, observations, mickey-takes etc about this blog during the week and many of them – most really – come direct through one of my e-mail addresses as most 'regulars' have long since got to know them.  I sometimes forget though that others  use the 'contact page' on the Weekend Rails website and occasionally this can give a spot of bother.

Of floors and walls

3rd July 2016

So here we are going into the second half of the year. After the drama of the last few weeks this edition should be rather quiet by comparison. On the good news side, the transfer of Andrew's site from one server to another was completed with only a few minor snags, and the site was back up on line before the weekend.  It is this site's turn this week, so it will disappear temporarily on Tuesday and reappear around Friday. If you are one of my regular mid week readers, you either have remembered my warning last week, or this was why you couldn't find it!

Of paint and wires

15th May 2016

So, the early bird may have missed the worm. If you read last week's edition of the blog before I got back home on Monday, then you'll have missed the 'postscript' I added after receiving pictures and news from Scunthorpe, where 03 901 took over a tour from an ailing 'Cranford'.

Of midweek merriment

(early) May 2016

If you're one of those avid readers who visits during the course of Sunday evening (and generally I've had had the first four or five visitors before I've even had time to do the obligatory site back-up)  then – shock news – I'm not here. If you're reading this in the course of Monday, or later, then normality will have been restored.

Of work in tandem

1st May 2016

Sunday again. Is it just me or has someone pinched a day or so this week? I could have sworn it wasn't seven days since I was last thinking what to say.
