Of water in all the wrong places

12th June 2011

It has been a fraught week at Briddon Towers. It began on Tuesday – well I know weeks generally begin on Monday but this one really launched itself a day late – with a scream from Steph that we had a leak. Actually we had suddenly developed two – one in the bathroom but a more serious one in the dining room, where water was gushing out from a radiator.

Of the year drawing to a close

30th December 2011

Having had the whole weekend before Christmas “off” I resisted the urge to do something on Andrew’s locos without his being there. For such a dereliction of duty not only was it inevitable that he would “book” me for Christmas Eve but 4 days between Boxing Day and New Years Eve to boot. Oh, well, what else would one do?

Of final preparations

24th July 2011

Saturday: With “Pluto” set to move north on Monday the 25th, this was the last weekend we had to complete the vac fit and other outstanding matters. So once Andrew had arrived back from a week of night shifts in darkest Norfolk, we packed the van and set off for Rowsley. The motive power situation had apparently been a bit eventful at Rowsley. Ever since the extension to Matlock opened, the lack of run round loop has meant that all trains are top and tailed, which usually means the Austerity (68013) on the Matlock end and the class 31 at the Rowsley end to pull it back.

Of more b***** snow

6th December 2010

On Monday we went up to Elsecar to recover the lorry sheet that covered the Sentinel “George” only to discover that Elsecar had already removed said sheet “in case it was theirs”. Ho humm. Plan A had been to see the loco on board the lorry heading to pastures new, but the latter was apparently stuck in snow somewhere in Scotland.

Of Teak and trackbeds

6th February 2011

I used to try Google-ing myself out of curiousity and up until a couple of years ago you’d be hard-pressed to find anything of me. About the only reference on the ‘net was Andrew and me appearing on “Scrapheap Challenge” in 2004, but Channel 4 took that page down a year or two ago. Now though, you get all sorts of hits, with this Railnuts blog high amongst them.
