Of gas oil and hedgehog houses

29th July 2018

Back again? Not so many pictures to show this week - one of those weeks where a lot of things happen but scarcely worth photographing. So best read on..

Of pipe and bellows

15th July 2018

As a narrow-minded, er - narrow gauge fan I would dearly have liked to have been at the Tracks to the Trenches event this weekend, but sadly more normal activities prevailed. Not as dramatic as last week certainly, (phew) but enough to be going on with.

Of bogies, flats and vans

8th July 2018

Well we broke the 30 deg C barrier in the shed today, touching 30.1. Lots of tea and flavoured water to drink. Lots of sweat dripping off foreheads. But enough of that, let's get on with the week.

Of meetings, planned and chance

1st July 2018

We have a new clock in the shed. Well not new exactly, it came from my late father's house but I only found it again this week when having a tidy-up in my 'office' at home. It was still happily displaying the time, date, day of the week and temperature. I thought that it would be of better use at the shed, so now it looks down on us (the LCD display looks blacker from below) and I can exclusively reveal that the temperature in the shed touched 29.5 degrees today. Much tea consumed to stave off dehydration. But I digress...

Of wheels wanderers and scribble

24th June 2018

Gosh it's hot. Anyone would think it's summer., Oh, it is. Well that sneaked up behind me without me noticing.

Of a Father's Day trip out

17th June 2018

Father's Day, huh? So my son and I go to North Wales - just. A day out, all expenses paid? Nah!

Of seals, bushes and carpenters

10th June 2018

Right, back to normal. Have you seen that first programme on carriage restoration (C4) presented by Peter Snow and Henry Cole? (The latter has his own series 'Shed and Buried' which is frequently on in the afternoons on Travel Channel. Steph used to watch it if she wanted an afternoon snooze - his voice guaranteed to put her in a stupour). But why, given he is a motor-bike afficianado with no rail knowledge, is he co-presenting?

Of rotabroach and slogging

27th May 2018

I am unashamedly going to start with a picture that illustrates what no bedside table is complete without.

Of flame and flu

15th April 2018

Being a life-time asthmatic and now a few years the wrong side of 60, I have, for this decade at least, taken advantage of the NHS' annual flu-jab, and queued up both in Darley Dale and earlier in Sheffield to get my dose of what best estimates predicted would be the prevalent strain that year.

Of HAPpiness and the ornamental pond

8th April 2018

You may notice that Weekend Rails has a slightly different appearance this week. The template has been updated and now should re-size itself automatically which should be of assistance if you are one of these who takes all your internet on your smartphone. The 'cloud tags' have been consigned to history but if you click on a tag below the entry you'll get a list of all the posts with that tag. Good eh? Now let's get back to normal business.
